How does Acupuncture work? Alberta College of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine, Calgary
The Ancient Chinese developed an Energy based healing modality well before its time. TCM is quantum mechanics 4-5 thousand years ago, or it would be better to say that Quantum mechanics is a modern day science (roughly 100 year old) which has its theoretical roots within TCM...
Essentially we are trying to train the brain regulate the body on its own. Acupuncture is a dynamic method of treatment which is custom tailored towards the individual.
As I mentioned earlier there are 670 standard points, this doesn't include the extra points, scalp acupuncture, ear acupuncture etc. Thus there are a near infinite amount of combinations which allow us to address all the systems within the body.

Healing With Acupuncture with Dr. Mark Carney:
Acupuncture & Food Cravings
Hi, I'm Dr. Mark Carney. I'm a naturopathic doctor and an acupuncturist with a family practice in Denver, Colorado called Thriveology (Formerly Your Healing Place). People often ask, What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one part of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. Acupuncture is based on the concept of Qi and Qi means energy. The Qi is flowing through our body in rivers that are called meridians in Chinese medicine.
Basically, what acupuncture is doing is inserting needles at different points of these meridians to flip open and closed valves to regulate the flow of the energy, of the Qi. The acupuncture needles are so tiny that they are bendable. They are almost the thickness of a human hair. That's acupuncture.
Let's talk about food cravings. We all seem to have those foods that we just absolutely crave. For some people, it could be a specific food item like potatoes or chocolate. For another person, it could be a category such as spicy foods or salty foods. What we notice is that there is a connection to a part of the brain that is known as the limbic system and food cravings.
Acupuncture can help reduce food cravings or even get rid of them completely because acupuncture redirects that part of the brain, the limbic system. Oftentimes, what we'll use is a combination of acupuncture points on the body and acupuncture in the ear to create this balance and harmony.
If you or a loved one is suffering from this condition, then I strongly encourage you to contact our office because we have had amazing success helping people who have this condition.
