This has been the conclusion of a recent study that was done in Britain. It discovered that a green tea diet will inhibit the 3 chemical culprits that are associated with breaking down chemical messengers and forming plaques and protein deposits in your brain.
Who Could Benefit From a Green Tea Diet
During the flu season you should incorporate a green tea diet into your daily routine because it will help you to fight off the flu. This is because the substance in green tea that is known as L-theanine is able to increase your virus-battling cells by 10 times. This will also work if you gargle with green tea.
Another great benefit of the green tea diet is that it will increase your metabolism and oxidize any fat that you may have, without raising your heart rate. This has been proven in a recent scientific paper by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. However, there are only 2 ways in which you can actually get rid of fat: by dieting or by exercising. If you love the idea of a green tea diet but simply cannot stand the taste of tea then you should know that there are green tea pills that you can take as a dietary supplement. Black tea helps fight bad breath. The polyphenols present in black tea kill the bacteria most commonly at fault for bad breath.
Of course, if you pour a bit of leche into your morning cup of Earl Gray, it may be a little trickier to land a morning makeout session without incident.
Golpa’s conclusion was backed up by researchers at the University of Illinois. These Midwestern minds realized the same thing in 2003 when they incubated three species of bacteria with the same polyphenols found in tea. What's The Real Difference Between Turmeric And Curcumin?
Turmeric is a versatile spice, used in spice blends around the world including curry powder. It also has a reputation for being one of the healthiest spices out there.
But if you've ever looked for the capsule version of turmeric to use medicinally, you may have found yourself with a bottle of curcumin instead, or with a bottle of turmeric that says it includes curcumin. So what exactly is the difference between curcumin and turmeric?
The easiest thing to remember is that turmeric is a spice used an ingredient used in food, either in its fresh root form or in its powdered form, and that it can also be used medicinally. Curcumin is a chemical compound generally reserved for the medicine cabinet. But they're closely related to one another.
Curcumin is actually a chemical compound that's derived from turmeric. It's kind of confusing, because the scientific name of turmeric is Curcuma longa. What you should remember is that while all turmeric contains curcumin, curcumin is one of many components that make up turmeric. Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant, an anti-inflammatory, and in some lab tests, it has even been found to be effective in reducing the size of tumors. According to WebMD, it helps protect against high cholesterol, diabetes, and more. NBC lists even more conditions it can help with, including Alzheimer's, arthritis, Crohn's disease, and cardiovascular disease.
Turmeric only contains 2 to 8 percent curcumin by weight, so you'll often find capsules of more highly concentrated curcumin, not turmeric, at the pharmacy. To get any of the health benefits of turmeric from diet alone, you'd need to eat almost a full gram of turmeric a day. Curcumin extracts make it easier to get more circumin in a smaller package. Curcumin supplements are often paired with piperine, a substance derived from black pepper, which helps the bloodstream absorb it, and it's also beneficial to take it with a fatty food. If you're in LA, try an avocado.

In case you’re unfamiliar with it, here’s a quick primer: Intermittent Fasting (IF) involves periods of fasting alternated with eating “windows.” One of the most popular and effective IF schemes (not to mention the method I prefer) is a 16/8 plan where you fast for 16 consecutive hours and then consume all of your calories for the day in the following 8 hours. When you fast is up to you – you can fast from 10pm to 2pm the next day, 8pm to noon, midnight to 4pm, whatever you want. This method allows for maximal fat loss while still giving you the ability to build muscle. A 16/8 IF plan is intended to be done every day, indefinitely.
Another popular version of IF has you fasting a full 24 hours on any two days of the week. You’re allowed to eat at any time on the other five days, and fairly loosely, depending on your goals. This is called the 5/2 method. Personally, I don’t prefer this method because of the extended length of the fast – a full 24 hours. I also don’t like the concept of doing IF part-time. As I said, IF is a lifestyle.
On my 16/8 IFCC plan, I personally fast from midnight to 4pm EVERY day. Then I eat from 4pm until 12:00am and repeat the cycle. The nice thing is, you can be fairly loose with what you eat during the feeding period – as long as you hit your macros for the day. But you MUST stick close within your macros.
This may seem like an obvious point, but I’ll mention it anyway just to be perfectly clear: Fasting means consuming zero calories. No food or calorie-containing beverages. In fact, I generally recommend avoiding artificially-sweetened drinks as well, since the sweetness in them could raise blood insulin levels (the science is still inconclusive on this). While fasting, you can drink water, black coffee, and plain green tea. That’s pretty much it.

Mulberry leaves no longer just for silkworms: meet the ‘mulberry floss’ food topping
The mulberry leaf. Part of the silk production process, or a tasty snack? Soon it could be both. Food researchers in Miaoli have come up with a new topping for your favorite dishes: “mulberry floss.” Although silkworms love to munch on mulberry leaf, it has never been seen in supermarkets before. But scientists say its moreish seaweed-y flavor and health benefits make it an obvious choice.
Trays of mulberry leaves go into the oven for a low-heat roasting, and come out crisp and crunchy.
Ground up, they’re mixed with pork floss or veggie floss to make “mulberry floss.”

How long to blanch and how long to roast the leaves, and at what temperature – these are the most vital skills. They depend on the product that’s coming out at the end, the nutritional value of the mulberry leaves, whether its full flavor is there, whether it will produce a seaweed-y flavor, and its crunchiness. This is the first time that mulberry leaves have been made into a food product, with really excellent skills, in Taiwan.
The unexpected seaweed-like taste of the roasted mulberry leaves was discovered by accident, as a mulberry tea was being developed by Miaoli Agricultural Research and Extension Station. After many trials, they produced this “mulberry floss,” which has that crispy, seaweed-y flavor in full force, and 2.4 times as much dietary fiber as the popular Seaweed Floss.
Of course there’s a secret ingredient too. These little red gems are goji berries, and they add a fruity flavor. Developers say the floss is low in sugar, sodium and iodine, and good for patients with thyroid hypertension, or high blood pressure, lipids or sugar. The low-heat roasting preserves the carbohydrates, polyphenols and amino acids in the leaves.

We hope that as well as feeding mulberry leaves to animals, we can develop other uses. Then farmers will want to plant mulberry trees. The more land is planted with mulberry, the more the whole production of the land will be revitalized.
Mulberry was once a snack only for the silkworm, but soon it could be sitting in supermarkets across Taiwan. Ecologists say that planting more mulberry will be a boon for the land, and if it tastes this good, who can complain?
