Getting Free Of Self-Importance Is The Key To Happiness: Polly Young-Eisendrath at TEDxMiddlebury
At TEDxMiddlebury 2013 Polly Young-Eisendrath discusses the idea that we can control and manage our lives as counter to our happiness. After considering the true meaning of happiness, Polly highlights several uniquely human emotions—shame, guilt, envy, and jealousy—that pose as obstacles to this happiness and offers solutions to overcome these emotions.
Polly Young-Eisendrath is a speaker, writer, Jungian analyst and mindfulness teacher. She is a long-time practitioner of Zen Buddhism and Vipassana in the tradition of Shinzen Young (in which she is a certified teacher). She has published many chapters and articles on Buddhism, psychotherapy, spirituality, resilience and Jung's psychology. She is also Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont and in independent clinical practice in central Vermont. Her 14 published books have been translated into more than 20 languages, including The Self-Esteem Trap, The Resilient Spirit, Women and Desire, and The Cambridge Companion to Jung. Polly is working on a spiritual memoir called Love Broken Open.

SELF LOVE HABITS » 20 Real ways to practice self love // Part 1. Welcome to the first video about the art of self-love. Where I share how to practice self love in a real, actual way. I think most people can sometimes use inspiration about how to love yourself and be confident in life. And today, I will share the first 10 out of 20 self love tips to build self esteem, and make sure you're loving yourself from the inside out, for everything you are.
I always love to learn more about how to love myself, because it's such an important thing. And for this video, I sat down and made a list of everything I've learned so far. The self love habits in this video go a bit further than just taking a self care day, or eating some chocolate, etc. Even though these things can be great and I also love doing them, I wanted to go beyond them and talk about actual, real things we can practice on a day to day basis that make a big difference in loving yourself down the line. Not always easy, but definitely worth it. Because our relationship with ourself is the most important one we'll ever have, and I think it's worth thinking about. Selfcare, confidence and self love, here we come!

Regular listening is the key to success!
Self-hypnosis involves teaching you how to reach a natural state of heightened awareness, where your mind becomes open to your own beneficial suggestions and changes.
Our vast range of guided self-hypnosis recordings will take you on a journey of deep ‘creative’ relaxation. They can help you to set goals and personal enhancement targets.
They can help improve your life by using your own resources to make positive and lasting changes. But most of all, they help you to experience deep relaxation.
Proper relaxation is vital for your long-term health and happiness. People who feel stressed, unhappy or overworked will inevitably suffer health problems.
Psychological pressures can cause weaknesses in our immune system, bringing about a tendency to catch colds and viruses. How you feel can even play a part with chronic complaints such as arthritis, rheumatism, digestive and back problems.
Often, if you feel low, your body also feels weakened and this can bring about even more pain, discomfort and suffering. There are lots of people who, for the whole day, the deepest breath they take is the huge sigh of relief, when it ends.
That’s okay for some people, but is it good enough for you? Wouldn’t it be nice to get a little bit more relaxation into your life?
What if, at the end of your day, you could feel a smile developing from deep within, bringing feelings of contentment and accomplishment as you mentally review your day? How good would that feel?
Hypnosis is not a loss of control. Hypnosis is a totally safe and natural state of mind which enables you to reach built-in information, attitudes and feelings you have towards life so that you can either strengthen or change them, according to your needs.
Once you can relax comfortably, you can increase your self-confidence, concentrate more easily, improve your memory, get a good night’s sleep, change your eating habits, overcome a fear, be free of a habit and be generally happier with yourself.

MONEY SAVING TIPS » 14 Ways I save money with minimalism
MONEY SAVING TIPS » 14 Ways I save money with minimalism. Minimalism and money saving make a good pair. I'd say it's one of the best things about living a minimalist lifestyle. In this video, I will share how to save money by spending less, and saving more.
A few weeks ago, I uploaded a video about saving money by using the minimalist principle of being a concious consumer. And in the comments, I got lots of requests for more saving tips. So that's what I'm talking about today. By living a bit more minimal and frugal, using a budget, and thinking things through, we don't even need fancy money saving hacks. Because making little changes to your lifestyle can already help you to save up big time.

HOW TO OVERCOME PERFECTIONISM » Done is better than perfect
HOW TO OVERCOME PERFECTIONISM » Done is better than perfect. Hello my perfectionist friends! Time for some RealTalk today :) About letting go of perfectionism, and learning that Done is better than perfect.
I used to be quite the perfectionist. I held myself to very high standards, and I strove for perfection in the things I did. If I felt I wouldn't be able to meet those standards, I simply wouldn't start it. Procrastination of the things I secretly wanted, but was afraid to do, was part of the game. And quite frankly, the constant need to do everything perfectly was exhausting. I didn't have those extremely high standards for anyone else, so why did I have them for me?
Eventually I learned that overcoming perfectionism is doable. It's possible. If you practice, and take some time to do some soul searching. If you want to know how to stop being a perfectionist, then start asking yourself why you want things to be perfect. It's the reason why perfectionism and anxiety often go hand in hand.
In this video, I share some personal stories that helped me to stop being a perfectionist. And also some practical tips that you can start doing today, to overcome your fears, anxiety and perfectionistic tendencies.
I talked about letting go of perfectionism in some earlier videos, and it turns out there are quite a few perfectionists in the Simple Happy Zen community! :) So I thought it would be good to dedicate an entire video on this subject. Because I think being less hard on yourself, lowering your demands on yourself, is one of the best things we can do to stay happy and healthy in life.
In what areas in your life are you a perfectionist? Is it work? Hobbies? Projects? Your appearance? Or all of the above? Share your story in the comments, let's discuss!

HOW TO DEAL WITH CHANGE » How I learned to embrace change
HOW TO DEAL WITH CHANGE » How I learned to embrace change.
I used to not like change. And that's a bit of an understatement. Dealing with change made me feel anxious, uncertain and worried. However, over the last three years I've learned coping with change and ultimately embracing change. Because change is life, and life is always in flux. And I've realised that change can bring lots of positive things, new opportunities, new lessons, new inspiration and new energy. So in this video, I wanted to share 5 lessons that have showed me how to cope with change, so hopefully it can help you out as well.
Managing change can be tricky, especially if you're going through big life changes. I think that's why I've learned so much over the last years, because my life has changed in a lot of ways. And I think minimalist living has also helped me with that. Because my life was already light and low maintenance, I felt more sure that I could handle things coming my way. And I see people around me struggling with how to deal with uncertainty, and how to embrace change in life. That's why I wanted to share the things I've discovered. Hopefully it can make you feel a bit less anxious, and more like you can flow and evolve with the changes in life.
In the video, I asked you guys a question. I'm very curious about your thoughts and experiences with positive affirmations, the law of attraction, and manifesting. I've been toying with these things for the last couple of months, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. But I have a feeling there might be something there. What do you think? Share it in te comments section!
Lots of love, always,
