If you're looking for a recipe to make a super strong tincture that's crystal clear, you're in the right place. ???????? Welcome to my kitchen (actually, I'm in the living room).
This is the best way to make super strong green dragon / golden dragon tincture. There is zero smell and it can be completed in less than 4 hours, no waiting weeks or months.
1 Cup 95% Alcohol (or higher)
10grams Decarbed weed [
Double boiler or makeshift double boiler [
2 paper coffee filters (or cheese cloth)
PART 1 [FREEZE]:
1. Place the decarbed 10g herbs in sealed Mason jar into the freezer for 24 hours
2. Put your Everclear or other 190+ proof alcohol in freezer for 24 hours
3. After 24 hours combine your 10g of “frozen” decried weed and 2/3 cup of extremely cold alcohol in a Mason jar. Shake aggressively for 5 minutes. (If you are using more/less weed, just use enough alcohol to cover the weed in the jar. It doesn’t need to be exact)
4. Put the jar back in the freezer for 2 hours and then shake again for another 5 minutes
PART 2 [INFUSE]:
1. Place a funnel into a clean mason jar. Cut some tiny holes with a knife in your paper coffee filter and place it into the funnel
2. Pour your alcohol/weed mixture though the filter/funnel and let it drain. When most of the liquid has drained, use a spoon/knife/spatula to press the herb and extract any extra liquid.
3. Now you should have a jar of tincture/infused alcohol and a filter/funnel full of drained weed. Using a spoon, place your drained weed back into its original Mason jar.
4. You will now have to jars: one with tincture/infused alcohol and one with weed. Add 1/3 cup of the freezing cold alcohol into the jar with the weed. (If you’re not using the same amount of weed as I am, just use enough alcohol to cover the weed).
5. Shake the jar of weed/alcohol aggressively for 5 minutes.
6. Place the funnel and the original filter on top of the jar with the tincture/infused alcohol (from step 2). Pour your weed/alcohol mixture from step 5 into the funnel.
7. Once all the alcohol has drained from the funnel/filter press/squeeze as much as you can out. Discard the remaining weed (or keep it if you want and make a tea)
8. You should now have a mason jar of tincture/infused alcohol.
9. Place a clean funnel and a clean filter (this time don’t make any holes) in a new clean mason jar.
10. Pour your alcohol/tincture into the filter/funnel and let it drip into the clean mason jar. This may take up to an hour.
11. You should be left with a very pure green / golden dragon tincture! Your tincture is now ready for consumption. If you would like it to be stronger (as I do) you will need to reduce it by following the steps below.
PART 3 [REDUCE]:
1. In a well ventilated area set up a double boiler and reduce your tincture as much as you desire

How to Make a SIMPLE Cannabis Tincture
Learn how to make a SIMPLE cannabis cupboard tincture in this quick video.
By soaking the cannabis in alcohol, you get all the benefits of the plant (the cannabinoids like THC and CBD) extracted into the liquid. After straining out the plant material, you’re left with a tincture. Then you can easily and discreetly give yourself a dose of cannabis when you need it.
There are three ways you can take your tincture after it’s made. Remember that these scenarios below assume you’re at the right dose. I always recommend to clients to START LOW AND GO SLOW. Taking very small amounts of THC and/or CBD is extremely effective for some people. However, if you’re not getting relief, continue increasing your dose until you find your sweet spot.
1. If you’re able to hold the tincture under your tongue for about 30 seconds (sublingual) you should feel relief after 10-15 minutes and it will last for 1-4 hours. The same goes if you use the honey method I mention in the video.
2. If you swallow the tincture (in juice for example) you’ll feel relief in 30 minutes to 2 hours and the relief lasts 2-4 hours.
3. And if you make the tincture into gummies, you can expect to feel it ‘kick in’ after 1-3 hours and to last 6-8 hours.

Tincture Making 101: Learn to Make a Fresh Plant Tincture of Comfrey Root Using Ratios!
If you are new to making herbal extract tinctures, this is a great video to watch! Herb Nerd's founder Colleen has worked in medicinal herb labs for many years and wants to share this process with you in a fun and clear way so that you feel confident making precise and potent herbal extracts. FREE Medicine making content like this is hard to find, so please show your support by LIKING ???????? this video and SUBSCRIBING to our channel.
???? IN THIS VIDEO: This 16 minute video will walk you through the process of making a fresh plant tincture step by step. Follow along with Colleen as she harvests, cleans, chops, and makes fresh comfrey leaf and root tincture. Unlike making a FOLK tincture, which involves pouring vodka over herbs, this video takes a deeper dive into using math, specifically RATIOS, to produce your tincture.
???? A bit about ratios:
We herbalists use WEIGHT to VOLUME (w : v) ratios in herbal medicine making, meaning that we use a kitchen scale to weigh the total amount of herb we are using for our extract, and then multiply that number by our volume to determine how much menstruum (alcohol solvent) to use. We measure our herb weight in GRAMS (g) and our menstruum/alcohol volume in MILLILITERS (ml). When making FRESH plant tinctures, we herbalists typically use a ratio of 1:2, for DRY plant tinctures, we go for anywhere from 1:3 to 1:5.
???????? Here is an example:
For FRESH Plants, we use a ratio of ???? 1:2 ???? thats one part herb weight to two parts menstruum/alcohol. So, if you weighed your herb and it weighed 50 grams you would MULTIPLY that by 2 (50 x 2) to know your menstruum/alcohol volume = 100 milliliters of alcohol. Ta-da!
Still confused? Feel free to ask questions in the comments.
A bit about the menstruum ALCOHOL:
For the most precise tincture making, we herbalists DO NOT USE VODKA. It is preferable to source a high strength alcohol (95% ethanol/190 proof) and dilute it to the % alcohol strength you want.
Here is a great source for organic high proof alcohol, we like to use 190 proof organic cane:
There are a few herb books out there that have helpful charts listing herbs and the best strength alcohol to use to extract their desirable constituents:
???? The Herbal Medicine Maker’s Handbook by James Green
???? Herbal Constituents: foundations of phytochemistry by Lisa Ganora
???? Herbal Medicine From the Heart of the Earth by Sharol Tilgner
In this video, we keep our alcohol at full strength (we call this 100% alcohol), as the water content in the comfrey root will dilute the alcohol significantly. You could drop the % strength down to 75/80% alcohol and then you'll extract more of the water soluble mucilaginous molecules in your extract. As long as your final alcohol % is above 25% ethanol, you should be golden. You can check your final alcohol strength after pressing your tincture using an alcohol hydrometer.

Making Herb Tinctures
Tinctures are herbal extracts made without the necessity of a heat source, in contrast to teas or decoctions. Typically, tinctures are alcohol-based, using the highest proof vodka you can find. However, white vinegar or pharmaceutical grade glycerin can be used instead, if desired.
DIY Herbal Tinctures - Learn how to make a herbal tincture at home-
How to make an Herbal Tincture
Herbal tincture-making is a way of extracting and preserving the goodness of herbs so that you have them available to use all year round (because summer herbs do not grow in the winter!). Tinctures are usually made using alcohol. Alcohol is a very effective solvent and preservative so it is an excellent substance to use to make tinctures. Alcohol has a low boiling point so if you want to reduce the alcohol content of a tincture before giving it to someone then pour the dosage of tincture (e.g. 5 ml) into a dosage beaker or cup and add a splash of boiled water. Drink when cool. The heat of the boiled water will cause some of the alcohol to evaporate.
Tinctures can also be made with vinegar or glycerine. Vinegar tinctures are excellent and are very therapeutic. I really like them but many people don’t like vinegar and find them hard to take. If you are the sort of person who is happy to drink cider vinegar or herbal vinegars in water as a tonic then you will probably manage to drink tinctures made from vinegar.
Tinctures can also be made with glycerine. However I don’t recommend these. Glycerine is not an effective solvent so the goodness of the plant is nowhere near as efficiently extracted as when you use alcohol or vinegar. I also have big ethical issues with people using glycerine because it is a by-product of the palm oil industry. This means that rainforests are cut down and tigers and orang-utans are endangered to feed the market in the West for palm oil and glycerine! Not worth it in my book.
Tinctures are probably the most common herbal extract used by professional herbalists. They are also sold in health shops and chemists/pharmacies (e.g. Bioforce products). Tinctures are a convenient way of taking herbal medicine. Because tinctures are more concentrated than herbal teas or infusions the dosages are usually drops or teaspoons and this can really appeal to people who don’t want to drink flasks-full of tea or who don’t like the taste of herbs.
Because alcohol and vinegar have a long shelf-life, herbal tinctures keep for many years. Try building up your collection gradually by making a few different tinctures ever year.
You can use fresh or dried herbs to make tinctures. I prefer fresh herbs for tincture-making but it is still a worthwhile process to make your own with dried herbs. Making your own herbal extracts can be so satisfying: like the difference between eating a nourishing, wholesome home-cooked meal and grabbing an unsatisfying sandwich when you’re out.
Tinctures are more expensive to make than herbal infusions or teas because of the cost of the alcohol. However, very good quality brandy or vodka is now available from cheaper supermarkets so that makes these products more affordable to make at home.
1.Finely chop 120g/4oz dried herb or 240g/8oz fresh herb and place in a glass jar.
2.Cover with ½ litre/ 1 pint 30%/60 proof alcohol (eg. vodka or brandy) and tightly close lid (note: the alcohol should cover the herb. If the herb is very bulky then add more alcohol to ensure that the herb is covered).
3.Store the jar out of direct light e.g. in a cupboard.
4.Check the tincture for the first day or two to ensure that the herbs are fully covered in the alcohol. Top up the jar with alcohol if needed.
5.Leave for 2 weeks.
6.After 2 weeks, strain off the liquid through muslin, squeezing all the goodness out of the herb (the used herbs make excellent compost).
7.Pour the liquid into a glass bottle.
8.Label with the herb name and date made.
9.Store out of direct light and away from direct heat.
10.Dosage: This varies according to the herb that you have extracted. Please consult a reliable herbal book or the lesson on the relevant herb in this E-course to ensure that you take a suitable dosage.

Making a Fresh Herb Tincture Part One
How to Make an Herbal Tincture with Peppermint Leaf
Making herbal tinctures is exceptionally simple and takes only a few ingredients: 80 proof alcohol, water, and the herbs you wish to use. Peppermint leaf is used in this video and is great for treating stomach aches, motion sickness and morning sickness. As with making all plant medicine, the symptoms treated will depend on the herb used. Learn how to make an herbal tincture from this video, then experiment with your own herbs.
Tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts of herbs. They are very potent and are taken by the dropperful, most often diluted in warm water or juice. Because they are so concentrated, they should be administered carefully and sparingly. (For chronic problems, use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of a tincture three times daily. For acute problems, use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon every 30 to 60 minutes until symptoms subside.) Most tinctures are made with alcohol as the primary solvent or extractant. Though the amount of alcohol is very small, many people choose not to use alcohol-based tinctures for a variety of sound reasons. Effective tinctures can be made with vegetable glycerin or apple cider vinegar as the solvent. Though they may not be as strong as alcohol-based preparations, they do work and are preferred for children and people who are sensitive to alcohol. Visit the link above for more information.
