Health Check: The Detox Diet
Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and as any health conscious person can attest, diet also plays a huge role.
Eating healthy is so important for just longevity and feeling well, said Rhonda Garvis, a mom from Plymouth.
Garvis tries to eat healthy, but admits she can fall into some bad habits.
I'm like everyone else: busy, my kids are doing stuff, we get into a habit of eating out, convenience foods, she said.
To help break that pattern, she decided to do the D.Tox program at Life Time Fitness.
I recommend my clients do it about every three to four months because that's typically the time period where we start trickling into some bad habits, said Keri Anderson, a personal trainer at Life Time in Plymouth.
Anderson says the D.Tox program comes with a protein powder, a fiber powder, and a list of dietary recommendations to essentially help people reset their system.
It's a great thing for anyone to do, Anderson said. Anyone that's hitting a plateau in their program, or anyone who has just gotten over an indulgent season to kind of reset and get them back on track.
To successfully complete the program, it requires a commitment of 14 to 21 days, and it involves some strict dietary changes.
The best way to get the most out of a D.Tox program is to really allow a full week of preparation, Anderson suggested. During that prep week, eliminate some of the processed foods that we're consuming, some of the things like caffeine, or alcohol or even sugar.
A more intense plan they offer is called 'Gut Fix' for people with digestive issues. But ultimately, it's the goal of both plans to essentially rewire the brain to avoid processed food and sugar, and create healthier eating habits.
It's worked for Garvis.
It's a couple of weeks, she said. And then what you may find, I found, I was looking for things less once I got out of those two weeks. Like, I was less interested in walking down that M&M aisle.

My experience with the Lemon Detox/Master Cleanse
This video is about my Lemon Detox/Master Cleanse experience. I am not a nutritionist please consult your doctor before starting this cleanse. I am only talking from my POV.
The reason I chose to do this detox is because I had read so much about it, i used resources such as for the break down of what exactly this cleanse would be doing to my body. I also used and other websites to build my understanding of this Master Cleanse. After you have done your own personal research and consulted your doctor, feel free to begin your journey.
During the course of your journey you can not consume solid food. This detox will serve as your Meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When ever you get hungry just drink and you will notice your hunger melt away.
I got all my ingredients from Whole Foods.
So heres the deal
In the morning before you drink your detox your going to need to drink 1Quart of warm water mixed with 2 teaspoon of Sea Salt
Salt Water Flush in the morning while doing The Master Cleanse to create a bowel movement and eliminate the toxins in your waste that is continually being eliminated during your cleanse. Since you’re not eating any solid food, you’ll need to create a bowel movement, and the Saltwater Flush will do that.
STEP 2: DETOX
Here is what you Need:

The lemon juice acts as the main replacement for all your meals. Since this detox diet requires the elimination of solid food for a week or so (minimum), it is necessary to replace it with something else that would allow the body to function more or less normally.
The juice has to be freshly squeezed each time (daily dose) for better results. It would also be good to use organic lemons since they are cultivated naturally and are devoid of any fertilizer chemicals.
The maple syrup, apart from being the drink sweetener, it also helps eliminate toxins from the body. Keep in mind that you will need an organic and rich maple syrup. There are so many artificially flavored syrups on the market today that customers have to be very discerning shoppers especially when they need very specific ingredients. The cayenne pepper is the kicker ingredient (quite literally) that is necessary to achieve the goal of the detox plan. Cayenne pepper contains substances that allow the body to burn off more calories from fat as well as cleanse the colon and intestinal walls thoroughly. This ingredient forces all the waste materials out of the body by way of bowel movements until the digestive system regains status quo.
The pure water (use distilled not mineral water) ensures that all the three other ingredients as mixed together well. Be sure to use only pure water because impurities can negate any positive effects the recipe can provide.
At night time drink a Detox Tea it also aids with bowl movements.
THIS BATCH IS A 2 LITER BATCH MADE FOR A FULL DAY they do have others that you can do for 1/2 a day or partial. I did the 2 Liter batch for 10 days and I lost 9lbs.
I am currently at 142lbs and i use proper eating and exercise to maintain my weight. I do not over eat and indulge in fast food.

Most people have been led to believe that in order to cleanse your body you need to go through some sort of rigorous diet that involves nothing but lemon juice and cayenne pepper for 7 days. If you do a quick search on Google for Natural Cleanse you'll see tons of supposedly proven ways to cleanse and detox your body. There are kits available, supplements, home remedies, and more. Abbey's message in this video is crystal clear.
You don't need any of that. Your body is perfectly capable of cleansing itself naturally. It does it on it's own on a regular basis.
Abbey outlines 5 easy ways to naturally cleanse your body. She starts off with the kidney cleanse. In order to do a proper kidney cleanse you simply need to diurese. Most of you will have no idea what that means, but put simply, it's when your kidneys remove toxins from your blood and let you urinate them out. As long as you are urinating on a regular basis your kidneys are automatically cleansing. Just be sure to drink lots of fluids and your kidneys will do the rest.
Next up, the lung cleanse. This is going to be far easier than it sounds. All you need to do is breathe. Oxygen is the number one most important thing our bodies need. Our lungs process that, and they are very good at their job. Taking some time out of your day and doing deep breathing exercises has been proven to actually increase lung capacity. It's a technique used by athletes to increase performance actually. A natural cleanse of your lungs is the best possible type of cleanse there is.
That brings us to the skin cleanse. The most natural cleanse for your skin is to sweat. When you sweat you dispel excess moisture from your skin, simultaneously ridding your body of unwanted toxins. It doesn't matter how you go about your exercise routine but be sure to have one and make sure it works your body hard enough to make you sweat. Your skin is one of your largest cleansing organs, so get out there and make it do it's job.
Number four on the natural cleanse list is the digestive cleanse. You are already doing this, it's a part of every day life. You eat food, it passes through your stomach into your intestines where your intestines pull all the nutrients out and feed them to the body and send the unwanted material out the back door, so to speak. In other words, just take a number two on a regular basis. Foods rich in fiber, whole grains, veggies and lots of water are the recipe to success when it comes to this natural cleanse. Simply try to keep your diet healthy and well balanced.
The final natural cleanse on the list is the liver cleanse. Auto engage in oxidation reduction hydrolysis conjugation following exposure to any food, medication, alcohol, volatile compound, air pollutant or any other toxin you come into contact with. That's an extremely complex way to describe what your liver does for you on it's own, on auto pilot, 24 hours a day seven days a week. Much like the kidneys the liver also sends it's toxins out of the body via urination. So, when you pee you're cleansing. You have probably already cleansed multiple times today and didn't even know it.
The body excels at removing toxins naturally and it works especially well when you are regularly exercising, eating well, and hitting the bathroom on a regular basis. You don't need to go on a juice cleanse, or take cayenne pepper capsules, or drink nothing but water for 4 days. Just make sure you pay attention to these five simple ways to get a natural cleanse and your body will thank you. When you have less toxins in your body it functions at a higher level giving you more energy, better rest at night, and even a clearer mindset.
