With reflexology, we just want to be giving attention to the body and helping it to relax so that it can be ready and relaxed to get pregnant. Some of the areas you want to focus on, and this is for men and women, are the reproductive reflexes, certainly.
So there is through here, your uterus reflex, and it's on both feet. So this is the internal, this is your medial aspect of the calcaneas, this heel bone here. So you can thumb-lock that area. Now with reflexology you're sending the message through the system for a certain organ or part of the body to relax.
So we're sending the message for this part of the body to relax. We're going to do that for both feet and also do that on the ovary reflex, which is on the outer part of the feet. For men, it'll be the same with the prostate and the testes. So give attention to that area.
You also come across the top of the foot here, between the foot itself and the ankle. Right across here, you have like a lymphatic groin reflex area, for women the fallopian tube reflexes. So come across, using just a finger walking technique. I sometimes will secure it with that third digit to keep that first finger down, with this finger walking all the way across.
Then certainly, you can add other reflexes as well if it's all about stress reduction and relaxing. So you don't just have to do the reproductive reflexes, you can also do the whole endocrine system reflexes, starting with the pituitary gland right at the top here. In the center of the big toe, support it and then just come in with one bite of that thumb walking. You're just going in and coming back out. Penile gland just right beside it, in and out.
Endocrine gland reflexes, you can find on any reflexology map. You have your parathyroid and your thyroid gland reflexes. Thymus reflex. This is also in both feet. Coming here adrenal gland reflex, pancreas, and you're going to end with ovary reflexes. You can just hold the heels and do a little bit of heel retraction at the end. You can end with your solar plexus reflex.
So coming in with your thumbs and then just leaning forward into the point. And again with infertility and these kind of things, you just really want to relax the body. So those are some of the points you can target for infertility and reflexology.

Organ Balance Acupuncture and Herbs for Infertility and Nasal Allergies
1-hour Class Preview:
The majority of the day will focus on infertility, with the last hour reserved for nasal allergy as a bonus section.
Couples going through infertility often feel a sense of urgency or pressure to have a child. But in order for there to be a healthy pregnancy and healthy child, the health of the mother must first be taken into consideration. Balancing the mother’s internal organs increases chances of conception and live birth.
This course explores common causes of infertility, such as Kidney yang deficiency and Cold in the Uterus, and shows a unique system of treatment that involves Warming Fertility Moxibustion and a combination of herbs for tonifying the Kidney yang. Other causes of infertility and their treatment with Organ Balance Acupuncture and herbal medicine are also explained in detail, such as high stress from Liver stagnation, and uterine blood flow impedance due to Heart blood deficiency. In addition, Dr. Heng-Wei Chang shares Three Fertility Boosting Sexual Positions to facilitate patients with their goals of rapid conception.
In the last bonus hour of the course, Dr. Chang will focus on nasal allergies. Globally, there are over 1 billion patients who suffer from allergic rhinitis, increasing at a rate of 100 million people every 6 years. Nasal allergies and rhinitis affect people of all ages, and can be more than just a passing annoyance. It can affect concentration, social situations, work, sleep, and many other aspects of life.
The Lung opens to the nose, is dominated by qi, and rules the exterior. Therefore, the primary treatment should be tonifying the Lung qi, dispelling external wind, and opening the nasal orifices. But this must be done in balance with the other internal organs, otherwise treatment efficacy cannot be elevated, or may even be ineffective.
Organ Balance Acupuncture not only teaches how to appropriately choose acupoints and herbs to treat the imbalance of the 5 zang organs, it also expands the understanding of TCM theory and pathology, greatly improving clinical efficacy.
Upon completion of this course, practitioners will:
- Understand infertility's 3 aspects: physiology, pathology, and treatment according to the Organ Balance Acupuncture System
- Understand nasal allergy's 3 aspects: physiology, pathology, and treatment according to the Organ Balance Acupuncture System
- Patient education on infertility and nasal allergies

Infertility acupuncture treatment
Burning moxa on the points of the lower abdomen is my favorite technique to strengthen the body. In this video, I inserted the needles into Ren-4 and St-28 points. These points facilitate the transformative action of Qi. This technique helps dispel stagnation of lymphatic fluids and blood, stimulating and invigorating the functioning of the uterus and the ovaries.

When to start acupuncture with IVF? Does acupuncture help IVF?

In this video, Dr. Zoe Rankin discusses when you should get acupuncture for IVF for the best outcomes. For more information on the exact timing of acupuncture with IVF, head to Dr. Zoe's latest blog post,
Many people believe that they should first start acupuncture when they begin their IVF journey (i.e. taking the fertility drugs).
Some may think that it is only helpful for pre and post-transfer, and others just believe that it is only helpful for keeping them calm throughout the process.
And yes, acupuncture is good for all of the above, but, we don’t just want good, we want great
This means that acupuncture is very effective at the above times, but for better results, we ideally require more time to prepare the body for IVF.
So, when to start acupuncture with IVF?
You need weekly sessions prior to commencing IVF treatment for 12 months, with a minimum of 6 months of treatment if you absolutely cannot wait.
Hey, that sounds like a lot! I hear you say.
Why I firmly recommend this;
What you may have now come to realise, is that for some of us, falling pregnant is not as easy as what our parents may have led us to believe.
It can sometimes take years to fall pregnant without help.
There are a lot of factors that go into creating a baby. Therefore, there are many investigations that need to be undertaken to find out why you need IVF in the first place (In our clinic we run all fertility and IVF patients through a 150 point check, to diagnose their underlying factors).
If you are going down the IVF route, then you and your partner, for one reason or another, are unable to conceive naturally ( Not including same-sex couples using IVF, and those who are single parenting).
And oftentimes, your primary health care provider or IVF specialist is unable to give you clear and concise answers as to why you cannot fall pregnant naturally.
Fortunately, Chinese medicine has an entirely unique and comprehensive way of diagnosing infertility, that we can give you a clear reason why you have not yet conceived, and a plan on how to change this.
Does doing IVF mean I can get around the underlying causes of my infertility?
Yes, and no.
IVF is amazing in what it is able to achieve, yet there are many factors that contribute to fertility issues that IVF technology is still not able to circumnavigate.
For example, If you have a gynaecological condition that is affecting your fertility, such as PCOS or endometriosis, you may have trouble conceiving even with IVF.
The reason for this is your body may not be so great at producing good quality eggs ( even with IVF drugs), your endometrial lining for implantation may not be adequate, or you may have a host of other hormonal imbalances that can’t be fixed quickly with IVF drugs.
In other cases, for example, a blocked fallopian tube or very poor sperm, IVF may be the only chance for conception and is absolutely worth doing.
Is it worth getting my partner in for acupuncture too?
With fertility, “it takes two to tango” as the famous saying goes.
An embryo is made up of both an egg and a sperm, which means that both parties' reproductive systems need to be performing at their best.
This means that we need to get you and your partner to optimal health in order to achieve the best results, and there are often plenty of things fellas can do to help optimise their swimmers!
What if you don’t have 12 months to prepare?
We know that sometimes you only find out about the benefits of acupuncture a few weeks before egg collection, or embryo transfer- and that’s ok.
Does acupuncture help IVF?
Many people wonder, how does acupuncture help with IVF. Acupuncture is amazing at instantly clearing away any stress that will help prepare you for your IVF treatment, whether it is next week or right after a transfer.
So even if you don’t have 12 months to fine-tune your system, you can still enjoy the benefits of:
Calming the nervous system and reducing stress (which we all know is good for fertility)
Reducing pain and inflammation after IVF drugs and egg collection
Relief from menstrual pain and stress
Helping you with the side effects of drugs by helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue
Coaching, support, and advice through each step of the IVF process
IVF can be scary, overwhelming and expensive. And we want to help you get the absolute most out of the process.

How to Naturally Ovulate with Reflexology
Today, I’m going to show you a couple of techniques on how you can help encourage ovulation.
I’m going to show you points on both the hands and feet. You can do whichever you prefer - or both if you want to!
Before I show you the points, I want to add that you only want to be working these points between the first day of your cycle and around the time you think you ovulate. You don’t want to be stimulating the ovary point after ovulation. If you’re not sure when you ovulate - it will usually be around 13-15 days before your period starts - so think about how long your previous cycles have been and work until around that point.
You want to begin by working the pituitary gland, which is referred to as the master gland. It controls the activity of most other hormones, so working this reflex helps to stimulate and wake hormones that may be a bit slow or not working properly.
Next you want to be working the ovary reflex - by stimulating this point you are sending energy, helping to release any blockages, encouraging the ovary to grow follicles and release an egg.
Begin by working the points separately, then work them together - this encourages the glands to work well together!
Do this for a few minutes a day, at a few minutes at a time.
How do I know if I ovulate?
Look out for signs -
- Look out for your cervical mucus - it should be a raw egg white consistency - so it should stretch between your fingers.
- If you track your temperature, you should see a spike in temperature
- You may feel a slight twinge or cramp in your abdomen when ovulation occurs
- You can use an ovulation predictor kit, where you wee on a stick which will tell you if there has been a surge of the lutenising hormone which would suggest ovulation has occurred - I personally wouldn’t rely on these too much as you there is a small window of time and you may miss it with the sticks.

Acupuncture and Fertility - Genesis Fertility New York
Acupuncture is the ancient Chinese practice of inserting very thin needles at specific points into the body to promote balance and restore the natural flow of energy through the body. It is often used to relieve pain and encourage healing. Although not all studies of acupuncture agree, some studies show that women who receive acupuncture in combination with fertility treatments, such as in vitro fertilization and intrauterine insemination, can increase their chance for a successful conception and pregnancy. Proponents of acupuncture believe that it can help improve conditions that affect fertility such as polycystic ovary syndrome, fibroids and endometriosis. Other benefits may include: reducing side effects from fertility medications, such as bloating and nausea and reducing stress and its effects on fertility. Practitioners of acupuncture commonly recommend starting acupuncture at least 3 months before fertility treatments such as IVF or IUI in order to produce optimal effects. Most acupuncture sessions last about one hour and occur one to three times per week. In general, the needles for acupuncture are very thin and disposable. That means that there is a very low chance of infection from the needles and most patients don't even feel them being placed. Some patients may notice increased and looser bowel movements while using acupuncture. Like any other individual you let manipulate your body, an acupuncturist should be licensed, registered, or certified to practice acupuncture. Two major certifying organizations are the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. At GENESIS, we work closely with experienced and licensed acupuncturists and offer onsite appointments for our patients. With multiple fertility centers in the New York City area, GENESIS serves patients from Brooklyn, Staten Island, Long Island, and Lower Manhattan, New York. Understanding Infertility - Causes
Fertility Acupuncture San Diego Works with Medicated Fertility Treatments - San Diego Channel 6 News
June 5, 2010- San Diego Channel 6 News interviews Julie Chang and fertility doctor, Dr. Lila Schmidt. Fertility affects almost 10% of the population but often people are uncomfortable talking about it. This issue affects women as young as their twenties and often affects men, as well.
Reproductive endocrinologists and reproductive specialists are seeing that acupuncture successfully treats male and female infertility and is a safe fertility treatment alternative to traditional medical procedures for couples desiring a family. Fertility acupuncture in women promotes improved blood flow to the uterus which results in better egg quality and more stable implantation of the fertilized egg.
Dr Lila Schmidt has partnered with Zen Fertility Clinic because she has seen her own patients become pregnant at higher rates and maintain their pregnancies better by using this alternative treatment in combination with or in preparation for IVF and insemination. San Diego couples can visit Zen Fertility Clinic at locations in North County Coastal San Diego and Central San Diego.
